“The Art of Home” - A Film Screening – October 25

“The Art of Home” - A Film Screening – October 25

Join together for a film screening and discussion of the Emmy-nominated film “The Art of Home: A Wind River Story.” Native American Artist, Al Hubbard will lead a discussion of the film and how art has the power to forge connections.

Celebrated artist Ken Williams (Arapaho/ Seneca) and artist Sarah Ortegon (Shoshone) explore what it means to be a "native artist."

The film, directed by Mat Hames and produced by Jordan Dresser, explores the process of creating art and  art as reconciliation. Ken Williams (Northern Arapaho/ Seneca) a celebrity on the Santa Fe art scene, and Sarah Ortegon (Eastern Shoshone), an up-and-coming actress and artist in Denver, reflect on their art, inspiration, and their tribal homeland, the Wind River Indian Reservation.

Featured in the film are a number of local, tribal elders from both the Arapaho and the Shoshone tribes in Fremont County, who provide historical context on the arts and crafts of their communities, passed down through the ages and drawing young artists to stay connected to their roots. The sacredness and connection to the earth and ancestors is voiced.
